‘Obsession’ Director Officially Returns to His Roots With a Terrifying New Horror Short
Curry Barker has released *Mama Bear*, a supernatural horror short about a man confronted over an act committed by his doppelgänger. The film explores how a person can be held responsible for violence they do not remember or understand, while the victim’s distress remains real.
The short is just under five minutes and is available free on Barker’s YouTube channel, That’s a Bad Idea, which he shares with Cooper Tomlinson. Jon Lee Richardson plays Floyd, who is warned that Lacey, played by Katie Sarife, is coming to kill him; evidence suggests his double has harmed her, and she shoots Floyd when she arrives. Barker wrote, directed and edited the film, which was made with Windows and also stars Ericka Kreuz and Joshua Snyder.
In short

- A man faces consequences for his double’s actions.
- The film is free to watch on That’s a Bad Idea.
Explained simply
A doppelgänger is a lookalike, often used in stories to create uncertainty about who has done something. In horror, that idea can raise questions about identity and responsibility, especially when one person is blamed for violence they cannot remember.
Curry Barker is a filmmaker who also makes videos with Cooper Tomlinson on the YouTube channel That’s a Bad Idea. His short films draw on horror conventions, where suspense and supernatural events can explore fear, guilt and the effects of violence.
The story centres on Floyd and Lacey, whose experiences of an apparent double point to different versions of what happened. That tension matters because Floyd’s lack of understanding does not erase Lacey’s distress, leaving responsibility and the reality of harm in question.
