Ocarina of Time remake datamine suggests Master Quest is on the way
Files in the new Ocarina of Time remake suggest that the tougher Master Quest mode may return, potentially as downloadable content. The clues have been found by dataminers, and Nintendo has not confirmed any DLC, so the mode’s release is not certain.
Strings in the game files include references to “MQ” and a possible “NewGameMQ” mode. A dataminer says access would require owning DLC, and reports that the world is mirrored and dungeons altered, including cows in Jabu-Jabu’s Belly; the data is incomplete. Master Quest previously featured rearranged dungeons and harder puzzles, with the 3DS version also doubling enemy damage.
In short
- Game files hint at Master Quest returning.
- A dataminer says it may require DLC.
- Nintendo has not announced the mode.
Explained simply
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is an adventure game in which the player guides hero Link through a fantasy world and its dungeons. The original game introduced Master Quest as a harder variation, with puzzles and dungeon layouts changed from the standard version.
A remake is a new version of an existing game, while downloadable content, or DLC, adds material after release and may require a separate purchase. Dataminers look through a game’s files for clues about its contents, but references in those files do not guarantee that a feature will be released.
