A South Yorkshire Police officer involved in a widely shared video of a confrontation with teenage girls in Rawmarsh, near Rotherham, is to receive additional training on "de-escalation" following an internal review. The clip, filmed on 20 June, showed some of the girls on the ground while officers had drawn their Tasers, sparking criticism online and concern about its impact on public trust in policing.

The force's Professional Standards Department examined all available footage, including unreleased body-camera recordings, and concluded that the officers' use of force was "proportionate, necessary and justified", a finding upheld by a peer review from another police force. However, it identified an "opportunity for learning" regarding de-escalation for one officer involved. Kilvinder Vigurs, South Yorkshire's deputy mayor for policing and crime, said the officer would receive appropriate learning and supervision. A 17-year-old girl was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker.
