A wildlife photographer in northern Switzerland has captured a striking image of four frogs gathered together on a stone, appearing to gaze at their own reflections in a pond. The picture, taken by 57-year-old Stefan Huwiler in the canton of Aargau, offers a charming glimpse of local wildlife and highlights the behaviour of common water frogs, which are often seen basking near water in warmer months.

Huwiler achieved the shot by placing a stone in the pond and using amphibian food to lure the frogs onto it, then waiting patiently for the right moment. The frogs, known as edible or common water frogs, typically measure between 5cm and 11cm and have green or brown skin with dark spots, a pale underbelly, yellow eyes and a light stripe down their backs. They are known for basking on banks, logs or lily pads before quickly diving into water when they sense danger, and a group of them is referred to as an "army" or "colony".
