Smashing Pumpkins brought Olivia Rodrigo and Yungblud onstage during their Lollapalooza set in Chicago, creating a guest-filled performance centred on the band’s Nineties catalogue. The appearances highlighted the continuing influence of the group’s music across generations and became one of the festival’s most notable moments.

Yungblud performed “Luna” from 1993’s four-times-platinum album Siamese Dream with Billy Corgan on guitar, shortly after playing his own festival set. Rodrigo then joined the band for an acoustic rendition of “Thirty-Three” from 1995’s Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness; earlier in the week, the band’s aftershow also featured Barry Williams and former touring member Melissa Auf der Maur.
