Olivia Rodrigo joins Alanis Morissette for Irvine festival duet

Billboard · 2 hours ago

Olivia Rodrigo turned a lineup setback into a highlight of her first Daisy Chain Fields festival on Saturday 29 August, bringing Alanis Morissette on stage at Great Park in Irvine, California, after Yeah Yeah Yeahs singer Karen O withdrew due to a personal matter. Rodrigo broke the news to fans herself before revealing Morissette as the surprise replacement, and the pair performed Morissette's 1995 hit "Ironic", reworking a lyric from "beautiful wife" to "beautiful husband" in a nod to the event's all-women, queer-inclusive line-up, which also featured Chappell Roan and Doechii.

The moment built on a longstanding connection between the two artists: Rodrigo has often cited Morissette's Jagged Little Pill as a formative influence, inducted her into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2022, and previously duetted with her on "You Oughta Know" during her Sour tour. The festival came amid a career peak for Rodrigo, whose third album debuted at No. 1 with 485,000 equivalent units — 2026's biggest week for a solo artist — while its single "drop dead" topped the Hot 100, making her only the second artist after Beyoncé to top both charts with each of her first three albums. The one-day event raised $10 million for charities supporting women and girls, ahead of Rodrigo's upcoming Unraveled Tour.
