Nine years ago, on 11 August 2017, Chris Stapleton's second solo album, From A Room: Volume 1, spent its final week at number one on the charts, confirming that his breakout debut, Traveller, had been no fluke. The record went on to win Album of the Year at the CMA Awards and Best Country Album at the Grammys, cementing Stapleton's reputation as one of country music's leading artists.

The album spent eight non-consecutive weeks at number one and was recorded with longtime collaborator Dave Cobb at RCA Studio A in Nashville, which lent the record its title. It featured the singles "Either Way" and "Broken Halos", the latter written by Stapleton on the day a childhood friend died of pancreatic cancer. Both tracks were also decorated with awards: "Broken Halos" won Single and Song of the Year at the CMAs, while "Either Way" earned Best Country Solo Performance at the Grammys.
