A 22-year-old plumber, Daniel Hussein, was shot dead in a car park in Thomastown, in Melbourne's north, just hours after celebrating his engagement with family and friends. Mr Hussein reportedly told relatives shortly before the shooting that he was being followed by a mysterious unregistered black Porsche, and his family believe he was killed after going to help a friend who had become caught up in a separate altercation. Mr Hussein was found with a gunshot wound at Uren Reserve at around 7.30pm on Sunday and died at the scene, which was cordoned off overnight with blood stains still visible when police reopened the area early the next morning. His brother, Ali, said Mr Hussein had driven to the car park after a friend involved in a brawl called him for help, and that he was shot while his car was still running, with the family linking the incident to a dispute in Melbourne's CBD the previous night. Family and friends have rejected online speculation linking the killing to Melbourne's ongoing gangland conflicts, instead describing Mr Hussein as a hardworking, fitness-focused young man who had recently finished his plumbing apprenticeship and was due to marry this year.
