Director Will Gluck says he removed a significant amount of nudity from his new romantic comedy, “One Night Only”, because he believes contemporary audiences are uncomfortable with sex on screen and can be distracted by it. The film’s unusual premise — a world where premarital sex is legal for only one night each year — has prompted questions about its logic, but Gluck says its rules are intended to remain secondary to the characters’ experiences.

Monica Barbaro plays an aspiring singer and Callum Turner a pizza-shop owner whose girlfriend wants to see other people during the permitted night; their characters repeatedly cross paths over 12 chaotic hours in New York. Gluck, whose previous film “Anyone But You” became a word-of-mouth box-office success, hopes audiences will discover that the film is more character-driven than its provocative concept suggests.
