One Piece anime fans are having the biggest summer of all time

Polygon · 2 months ago

One Piece, one of the longest-running and most successful entertainment franchises in anime and manga, is enjoying a remarkable period of expansion across multiple formats in 2026. A wave of new releases, merchandise and adaptations means that fans of the nearly 30-year-old series have an unusually busy stretch ahead, underlining how the property continues to grow rather than fade after decades in the spotlight.

Several developments are driving the excitement. LEGO is releasing six further One Piece sets tied to the live-action series' second season on 1 August 2026, followed by a two-part animated Netflix special retelling the first two seasons on 29 September 2026. Netflix has confirmed that filming on the live-action show's third season, covering the Alabasta arc, wrapped on 30 June 2026, with episodes due in 2027. Toei Animation announced on 3 July that the first official "Mugiwara" (Straw Hats) store in the United States will open this autumn at Westfield Century City in Los Angeles. Meanwhile, Netflix and WIT Studio's anime remake, The One Piece, remains slated for early 2027, promising higher production values than the original 1,167-episode series.

  • One Piece is expanding rapidly across anime, live-action and merchandise in 2026.
