A group of musicians has formed the one-off project The Watergirls to record an electronic cover of The Waterboys’ “The Whole Of The Moon” in memory of Keith McIvor, the Scottish DJ and producer known as JD Twitch of Optimo. The release honours McIvor, who died last year after disclosing a brain cancer diagnosis, while reflecting the community he built through music and club culture.

Glasgow musician Teamy initiated the project with lead singer Mhairi McClymont, alongside contributors including LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy, Shellac’s Bob Weston, CC:Disco and Fantastic Twins. The track will be issued on 12-inch vinyl via Murphy’s DFA label on 2 October, with two Hardway Bros remixes and a radio edit; all proceeds will support Beatson Cancer Charity and the Scottish Brain Tumour Research Centre of Excellence.
