OpenAI has begun making ChatGPT Health available to all logged-in adult users in the United States, enabling them to connect medical records and health-tracking data to the chatbot. The launch matters because OpenAI is promoting its latest models as highly capable in health-related reasoning, while acknowledging that the service is intended to support rather than replace professional care.

A senior OpenAI executive said the models could reason beyond clinician level, though the company’s health lead qualified this by citing individual studies rather than a broad comparison with doctors. Users can connect information such as clinical notes, test results and medication lists, plus data from services including Apple Health and MyFitnessPal; the feature is available on web and iOS across free and paid plans. OpenAI says health data receives extra encryption and requires permission before it is used in responses, but the rollout follows a lawsuit alleging dangerous medical advice from ChatGPT delayed treatment for a pulmonary embolism.
