OpenAI launches GPT-6 Cyber with ‘Critical’ cybersecurity rating
OpenAI has released GPT-6 Cyber, a model designed to identify security flaws, test how they might be exploited and help developers fix them. It has given the model a “Critical” cybersecurity rating and is initially limiting access to a small group of vetted customers, reflecting both its capabilities and the risk that powerful cyber tools could be misused.
OpenAI says the model found 81 previously unknown Firefox vulnerabilities that Mozilla rated high severity, and helped develop working exploits for 948 Linux kernel vulnerabilities, 588 of them previously unknown. The company has disclosed 304 critical Linux findings to maintainers with proposed patches. GPT-6 Cyber is being rolled out through OpenAI’s Daybreak Red access tier for authorised security work, with access due to expand to all approved customers over the coming weeks; the earlier GPT-5.6 Cyber model becomes available to all Daybreak Red customers immediately.
In short
- OpenAI gives GPT-6 Cyber a “Critical” cybersecurity rating.
- It found 81 previously unknown high-severity Firefox flaws.
- Access is restricted to approved security customers.
