OpenAI is rolling out ChatGPT Health to US users aged 18 and over, allowing the chatbot to draw on linked medical records during ordinary conversations. The feature is intended to help users understand appointments, test results and health trends, but it raises concerns because ChatGPT can make confident errors and is not a substitute for professional diagnosis or treatment.

Users can connect Apple Health and providers including Kaiser Permanente and One Medical, then add details such as conditions, medicines and family history. OpenAI says this data will not train its foundation models or be used for advertising, and users can require permission each time it is accessed or disconnect it; the launch comes amid a lawsuit alleging harmful medical advice and a separate dispute with Apple.
