OpenAI president Greg Brockman has confirmed the company is developing a "family of devices" designed for interacting with its AI chatbots, though he stopped short of confirming specific details about their form or timing. The remarks, made in an interview with journalist Joanna Stern, add substance to long-running speculation about OpenAI's hardware ambitions, which include a collaboration with former Apple designer Jony Ive and have fuelled rumours ranging from a smart speaker to a wearable device.

Brockman gave no release date, saying only that the devices "can expect them soon," and declined to confirm reports of a 2027 smart speaker launch or earlier suggestions of a Humane AI pin-style wearable. Asked whether Apple's lawsuit against OpenAI over its work with Ive might affect development, he said the company was focused on its "own development and technology" and had "no interest in other companies' trade secrets." Brockman also predicted a broader shift towards voice interaction with computers, and said OpenAI was working on technical safeguards to give users "verifiable, auditable guarantees" over the privacy of features such as ChatGPT's temporary chat mode.
