OpenAI says it will remove its models from the AI coding assistant Cursor after Cursor was acquired by SpaceXAI, citing concerns that Elon Musk’s companies may not comply with its terms of service. The move matters because Cursor is a widely used coding tool and the dispute further intensifies the long-running conflict between OpenAI and Musk.

OpenAI plans to end Cursor’s access on 12 November 2026, although Cursor could choose to terminate earlier; its chief executive said OpenAI currently serves about five per cent of customers. OpenAI pointed to Musk’s admission that xAI used OpenAI outputs to train its own models, while Anthropic said it would expand computing support for Claude in Cursor; OpenAI also cited safeguards around its forthcoming Astra model.
