OpenBSD 8.0 adds hardware support as its security record endures
OpenBSD 8.0, the project’s 61st release, has arrived with updates for modern hardware and virtual machines. Founder Theo de Raadt highlighted the operating system’s security record, saying its default installation has had only two remote security holes in more than 30 years.
The release adds Intel Arc graphics support, expands virtual address space to allow mapping more than 4GB of video memory, and brings hibernation to ARM64 systems. It also supports virtual machines with up to 64 vCPUs and drops the Loongson architecture port after it stopped working with the Clang 22 compiler.
