OPETH To Take ‘A Long Break’ After Completion Of Fall 2026 Latin American Tour
Opeth will take a “pretty long break” after finishing their Latin American tour, bassist Martin Mendez said in a radio interview. The pause is intended to give the band time to rest and recover before turning its attention to writing new music.
The tour is the final run for the band’s current album and features full-length headline shows. It began on 1 November in Santiago, Chile, and is due to end on 11 November in Mexico City. Opeth released its fourteenth studio album, *The Last Will and Testament*, in November 2024; vocalist Mikael Åkerfeldt has previously spoken about the strain and repetition of touring and his preference for spending more time creating music.
In short
- Opeth plan a long break after their Latin American tour.
- The band intends to rest before considering new music.
- The tour ends in Mexico City on 11 November.
Explained simply
Opeth are a Swedish band formed in the late 1980s, known for combining heavy metal with quieter, progressive passages. Singer and guitarist Mikael Åkerfeldt is the band’s main songwriter, and Martin Mendez has played bass since the mid-1990s.
The Latin American dates mark the end of the touring cycle for the band’s fourteenth album, The Last Will and Testament, released in 2024. Bands often take time away from touring to rest and work on new material, so the pause will give Opeth a chance to shift from performing the album to writing again.
