ORF-Enterprise Boards ‘Crème de la Crème’ – About a Sperm Bank Business – Produced by Whatever Pictures and a ‘Playful and Irreverent’ Series
Finnish production company Whatever Pictures has agreed a global sales deal with ORF-Enterprise, which acquired international distribution rights to comedy drama “Crème de la Crème”. The YLE-commissioned series follows a young farmer whose struggling family dairy farm is given a new lease of life when he and his friends build a successful sperm bank business.
ORF-Enterprise says the series pairs a distinctly Finnish setting with universal themes of ambition, financial pressure and friendship, and offers a playful, irreverent take on Nordic drama. Separately, Whatever Pictures is developing crime series “Silent Herd” with Norway’s Rein Film, set in a Sápmi community where suspicious deaths draw an investigator back to their childhood village; Sámi creatives are involved and the production says it is following cultural protocols.

YLE is Finland’s public broadcaster, and it commissioned Crème de la Crème from Finnish production company Whatever Pictures. The series is a comedy drama about a young farmer and his friends, who try to save his family’s struggling dairy farm by starting a sperm bank.
ORF-Enterprise is the commercial arm of Austria’s public broadcaster ORF and handles sales of television programmes to international markets. The deal places the Finnish series with a distributor seeking buyers around the world.
The story brings together two businesses: farming and the collection and sale of sperm for fertility treatment. Its setting is specific to rural Finland, while its themes of money pressures, friendship and trying to keep a family business going may be familiar to viewers elsewhere.
