Limited Run Games is producing a physical Deluxe Edition of Silent Hill: The Short Message for PS5, priced at $70, despite the game having originally been released for free. The move is notable because the title holds the lowest Metacritic score in the Silent Hill franchise's history, at 52, and was widely regarded as poor when Konami shadow-dropped it during a livestream ahead of the Silent Hill 2 remake. The Push Square writer argues that while the digital version was at least a harmless couple of hours as a free download, charging real money for such a weak game is hard to justify.

Pre-orders for the physical edition are due to open on Friday 10th July 2026. The package bundles the game — made exclusively for this edition and not sold separately — along with a set of art cards featuring Maya's graffiti art and sketches, an art poster, a Sakara acrylic keychain, and an individually numbered Certificate of Authenticity. The author maintains his original verdict that the roughly two-hour game is bland and a chore to play, recommending against the purchase, though he notes the free digital version remains available on the PS Store and is not being affected by any price rise.
