A kitten named Pretzel, born with fused, malformed back legs in a Hawaii garage in February, has undergone surgery to have those legs removed after they became too heavy for her to drag around and caused her pain. She was taken in by foster-based rescue group Action 4 Animals, which paid around $1,500 (roughly £1,180) for the operation at a veterinary clinic in Keaau, giving her the chance of a pain-free life.

Pretzel's foster carer, Allie Fishburn, has since adopted her permanently, saying the two became too attached to part ways. Fishburn provides Pretzel with daily medication and built her a ramp to help her get around the house, and footage shows the kitten running happily around Fishburn's property in Pahoa. Action 4 Animals president Elaine Partlow said the organisation continues to rely on donations and volunteers to help animals like Pretzel, with donations accepted via its website.
