Oscilloscope Laboratories Acquires Ann Oren’s ‘Objet a’ Ahead of Locarno World Premiere (EXCLUSIVE)

Variety · 5 hours ago

Oscilloscope Laboratories has acquired the North American distribution rights to "Objet a," ahead of its world premiere in the international competition at the 2026 Locarno Film Festival. Written and directed by Ann Oren and co-written by Geoffroy Grison, the deal marks the second collaboration between the distributor and Oren, following the 2023 US release of her acclaimed debut feature "Piaffe."

The film stars Aenne Schwarz, Louis Hofmann, Simone Bucio and Georg Friedrich, and follows two hand surgeons, Ingeborg and Adam, whose relationship is upended when a mysterious woman named Gaia enters their lives. Oscilloscope's SVP of acquisitions, Aaron Katz, praised Oren as a "visionary artist," while the director said the film explores human desire and its connection to the natural world. "Objet a" is Oren's return to Locarno after "Piaffe" premiered there in 2022, and is produced by Schuldenberg Films with several European co-producers and funding bodies.
