A new film adaptation of Jane Austen's *Sense and Sensibility*, directed by Georgia Oakley, has received its first critical reviews following the embargo lift. The film, starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esmé Creed-Miles as the Dashwood sisters alongside *Outlander* star Caitríona Balfe, currently holds a 75% score on Rotten Tomatoes, representing a strong start for this ambitious big-screen interpretation.

Critical response to the adaptation has proven mixed, with some reviewers hailing it as a masterful and fresh interpretation suited to new audiences, whilst others have criticised its visual presentation as "grimy, dark, and drab." The 75% score falls notably short of the 97% achieved by the acclaimed 1995 Ang Lee adaptation, which starred Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet. The film debuts in the UK this weekend before its US release on 16 October.
