Blizzard's hero shooter Overwatch has climbed out of the "Mostly Negative" tier on Steam to a "Mixed" user-review rating, meaning it is no longer the platform's worst-reviewed game. The shift matters because it marks a notable turnaround for a title that, on its August 2023 Steam debut as Overwatch 2, drew only 10% positive reviews and sat at the very bottom of Steam's rankings.

The original backlash centred on unpopular changes: teams cut from six players to five, a free-to-play model that initially locked new heroes behind purchases or the Battle Pass, and the wholesale replacement of the first game. A promised PvE mode was largely shelved, and many felt the update did not justify a sequel. Blizzard has since released heroes more consistently — apparently in response to rival Marvel Rivals, with five added in February and 10 planned for 2026 — though critics still condemn pricey microtransactions, such as a $99.99 coin bundle, and a reportedly toxic player base. The game's approval now sits at around 40%.
