Sheffield Wednesday gave popular defender Glenn Loovens a surprise final appearance against Norwich City after deciding not to offer him a new contract. The match marked the end of the former captain’s time at Hillsborough, where he had been an important and well-liked figure.

Loovens was selected despite not featuring in the squad since early March, replacing Tom Lees in the side. The 34-year-old made his 150th appearance for the Owls, while Ross Wallace and Jake Kean were also set to leave when their contracts expired.
