Pandora, a black British Shorthair cat, has been reunited with her owners six years after vanishing during a car crash in 2020 whilst the family was relocating from Colchester to Scotland. The cat escaped from her carrier when it was thrown from the vehicle during the accident, and despite extensive searches, the family had lost hope of finding her. The reunion, facilitated by a microchip scan, underscores the critical importance of microchipping pets and maintaining updated registration details.

A stranger in Perth, approximately 120 miles from where Pandora went missing, noticed the scruffy stray attempting to enter her home and contacted Cats Protection. When volunteer Fiona Morrison scanned the cat, she discovered the microchip was still active and registered to the Bowie family at their new Fraserburgh address, which they had updated just two days before their move. The reunion occurred on Mary Bowie's 60th birthday, and the incident aligns with recent research revealing that over three million cats in the UK remain unchipped, leaving them at serious risk of never being reunited with their families.
