Para-swimmer Ela Letton-Jones has won Team Wales’ first medal of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, taking silver in the women’s S13 100m freestyle. The result gives Wales an early boost on the first full day of competition and marks another significant achievement for the 19-year-old swimmer.

Letton-Jones, from Y Felinheli in Gwynedd, finished in 1:04.30, behind Australia’s Jenna Jones on 1:03.89, having also qualified second fastest. She has albinism, which severely affects her sight, and counts her strokes to judge her approach to the pool wall; after missing the 2024 Paris Paralympics, she joined Aquatics GB’s world-class programme and is targeting Los Angeles 2028.
