Deadline ·

Jane Wiseman is leaving her role as Paramount+’s executive vice-president and head of originals after 14 months, following a merger that combined Paramount+ and HBO Max’s operations. Casey Bloys, now overseeing content for the combined company, has placed Paramount+’s team under HBO Max executive Sarah Aubrey, with HBO’s senior programming team also in place.

During her tenure, Wiseman oversaw 28 new series commissions, 16 renewals and BET+’s content integration into Paramount+. Her slate included Landman, MobLand and upcoming projects starring Nicole Kidman and Elle Fanning, Jeremy Strong, Viola Davis and Anne Hathaway. Before Paramount+, she held senior roles at Sister, Netflix, Chernin Entertainment, NBC and Fox.

In short

  • Jane Wiseman is leaving Paramount+ after 14 months.
  • Paramount+ originals will report to Sarah Aubrey.
  • Wiseman oversaw 28 new series and 16 renewals.

Steelman: both sides, in good faith

The strongest fair case each way — we don't pick a winner.

The case for

Combining the teams under established HBO Max leadership could simplify decision-making, reduce duplicated costs and give the merged service a clearer content strategy. Supporters may see Wiseman’s departure as part of a necessary organisational reset, while her commissioning record suggests the transition follows a substantial period of work.

The case against

A merger-led reshuffle can weaken the distinct identity and creative relationships that helped Paramount+ build its slate, especially if its leaders and teams lose influence. Critics may also question the loss of an experienced executive after only 14 months, when continuity could help develop the projects she commissioned and integrate BET+’s content.
