Appeal court raises parents’ minimum terms for murdering their baby son

Daily Mail ·

The Court of Appeal increased the minimum prison terms for Klevi and Nivalda Pirjani, whose 13-week-old son Miguel died after repeated abuse. Three judges ruled that the original terms were unduly lenient, saying they did not adequately reflect the seriousness of the murder.

Miguel died in November 2024 from severe head and neck trauma; examinations found 41 broken bones and bleeding on the brain. His parents were convicted of murder and given life sentences in March, with minimum terms of 19 years for Klevi and 15 years and three months for Nivalda. The appeal court raised these to 21 years and six months and 17 years and nine months respectively.

In short

  • Appeal judges increased both parents’ minimum prison terms.
  • Miguel Pirjani was 13 weeks old when he died.
  • The court said the original terms were unduly lenient.
