Path of Exile 2’s game director thinks a death recap will finally allow us players to complain about the right things
Path of Exile 2 is getting a death recap in its 1.0 release on 11 December, giving players a clearer account of what killed their characters. Game director Jonathan Rogers said the feature is intended to help players identify weaknesses in their builds and give feedback about monsters whose damage may be incorrectly balanced.
The recap will show the damage players took and how much was mitigated, which could help them decide whether to improve defences such as life, evasion or cold resistance. Rogers said damage-over-time tracking is not yet fully accurate about where the damage came from, and the team is working on it. The developers may also bring the feature to the original Path of Exile if players request it widely.
In short
- Path of Exile 2’s 1.0 release is due on 11 December.
- A new recap will show damage taken and mitigation.
- Developers may add it to the first game if demand is strong.
Steelman: both sides, in good faith
The strongest fair case each way — we don't pick a winner.
The case for
A death recap could help players distinguish weaknesses in their own builds from damage that may be poorly balanced, making feedback to the developers more specific and useful. Showing damage and mitigation could also help players make informed defensive choices and make difficult deaths feel less opaque.
The case against
A recap may give players a clearer picture, but incomplete or inaccurate attribution—especially for damage over time—could lead them to draw the wrong conclusions about a death or blame the wrong source. It may also add development work without resolving the underlying balance issues, so its value depends on the information being reliable and actionable.
