Patreon launches 30 new creator features, including short-form Clips and revamped discovery

TechCrunch · 3 hours ago

Patreon has unveiled around 30 new features aimed at helping creators find audiences, build communities and better understand their earnings, as the membership platform pushes back against social media's focus on fleeting engagement over sustained fan relationships. Chief executive Jack Conte framed the update as a response to what he called a "failed promise" of the current internet for creators, who he said struggle to reach followers and build viable businesses on existing platforms.

Among the changes is Clips, an iOS feature that turns creators' videos into short, shareable clips that can be posted off-platform or as Patreon's own short-form "Quip" format, echoing TikTok and Reels. Other tools, still in early testing, include automatically generated video previews and text-snippet Quips to give potential fans a taste of paid content, both now also available to adult content creators. Patreon has also overhauled its discovery algorithm to compare posts by topic, craft and style rather than favouring larger creators, and introduced "Niches," a communities feature for fans and creators to gather around shared interests, alongside new Live Q&A tools, fan profiles and audience/earnings tracking tools.

  • Patreon rolls out roughly 30 new creator-focused features
  • New Clips tool creates short, shareable videos like TikTok/Reels
  • Discovery algorithm and "Niches" communities aim to boost smaller creators
