Jane Asher has said she will not watch Sam Mendes’ forthcoming Beatles biopics, in which Lucy Boynton will portray her opposite Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney. Speaking to The Telegraph, she said the filmmakers had approached her, but she maintained her long-standing refusal to discuss her former relationship with McCartney publicly. Her decision to avoid the films reflects her wish not to face questions about her reaction to their portrayal of that period.

Asher and McCartney dated from 1963 to 1968, becoming engaged in 1967 before separating the following year; their relationship influenced songs including ‘And I Love Her’ and ‘I’m Looking Through You’. The four interconnected films will each follow a different Beatle and are currently scheduled for simultaneous cinema release in April 2028. They will be the first scripted Beatles films made with full approval from Apple Corps and the surviving band members, alongside access to the group’s music rights. While Asher confirmed she had been contacted, Pattie Boyd said earlier this year that nobody involved had approached her about her portrayal.
