Peacock is finally profitable, thanks to the World Cup and Love Island

Engadget · 2 hours ago

Peacock recorded its first profit in the second quarter, helped by strong audiences for the FIFA World Cup, NBA playoffs and Love Island USA. The result matters because the streaming service had previously made substantial losses and is seeking to demonstrate its value as Comcast prepares changes involving NBCUniversal.

The service posted adjusted EBITDA of $189 million and reached 48 million subscribers, up two million over three months. It lost $432 million in the previous quarter, while executives cautioned that profitability may fluctuate with sports schedules and major releases; the World Cup contribution was also limited because Peacock held only Spanish-language rights and the quarter ended mid-tournament.

  • Peacock made its first quarterly profit.
  • Sports and Love Island boosted viewing.
  • Subscriber numbers rose to 48 million.
