Pebble founder Eric Migicovsky says his 30-day warranty is all about trust

The Verge · 11 hours ago

Pebble founder Eric Migicovsky has defended the company's short 30-day warranty on its new e-paper smartwatches, arguing that customer trust matters more than formal guarantees. Speaking to The Verge, he said buyers should understand what they are signing up for, noting that Pebble has been upfront from the outset that its relaunched watches, revived after the original firm folded in 2016, will not match the polish or long-term support of larger consumer electronics companies.

The comments follow concerns about hardware issues, including cracked front glass on the Pebble Time 2, with the brief warranty period roughly matching the watch's battery life. Migicovsky said Pebble has replaced 330 Time 2 units free of charge out of more than 19,000 in circulation, and will keep doing so for "reasonable reports" before eventually shifting to discounted replacements. He described the problem as affecting an "immensely small percentage" of devices, and said Pebble is also exploring offering spare parts so owners can carry out their own repairs.
