The Pentagon has reportedly begun the process of renaming Joint Base Charleston in South Carolina after the late Senator Lindsey Graham. The change would commemorate Graham’s military and political service, while altering the identity of one of the state’s major military installations.

According to the report, Air Force staff and the base have been directed to take the necessary steps to transition the facility’s name to Joint Base Lindsey Graham. Graham, who died on 11 July from an aortic dissection, served for 33 years in the Air Force, including active-duty work as a military lawyer in the United States and overseas.
