Perez Hilton “Reached Out” to Britney Spears, Neil Patrick Harris to Make Amends Before Livestream That Led to Hospitalization
Perez Hilton has told Fox News host Sean Hannity that he had reached out to celebrities including Britney Spears and Neil Patrick Harris to apologise for the harm his gossip blog caused them, in an interview recorded before he was hospitalised this week following a disturbing livestream. Hilton appeared to injure himself while livestreaming on TikTok on Tuesday night, and clips showing him covered in blood were shared widely online before his account was banned and the stream removed; the incident has drawn fresh attention to remarks he made about regret and addiction to attention just weeks earlier.
In the 14 July podcast interview, Hilton described becoming addicted to the attention his blog generated and said he now regrets mocking celebrities' bodies and appearances and speculating about their sexuality, calling it "cruel" and "heavy baggage" he still carries. He said an intermediary who relayed his apology to Spears reported that Khloé Kardashian responded kindly, while some others did not reply at all, and that his attempt to make amends with Harris, whom he had targeted while at How I Met Your Mother, went better. As an openly gay man, Hilton also said outing other gay celebrities in the past has left many gay men disliking him.
