Perez Hilton has signed documents allowing his mother, Teresita Lavandeira, to take temporary legal custody of his three children while he remains hospitalised following an apparent mental health crisis. The move is intended to protect the children and provide stability during his treatment, with Hilton retaining the right to ask the court for custody to be returned later.

Lavandeira filed the petition in Miami on 7 August for Mario, 13, Mia, 11, and Mayte, 8, after deputies reportedly responded to self-harm and suicidal-threat reports during a TikTok livestream on 4 August. Hilton is being held under Florida’s Baker Act and was described by his family as serious but stable after significant blood loss and injuries requiring surgery; his mother has also asked for the custody records to be sealed.
