Susie Wiles, White House Chief of Staff, has published an op-ed describing her experience fighting breast cancer whilst holding one of America's most demanding political positions. She was diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer in March, underwent chemotherapy whilst continuing her duties, and was declared cancer-free in September after receiving clear pathology results from the Mayo Clinic.

In her account, Wiles described cancer as "brutal and unrelenting" and acknowledged that some days simply getting out of bed and going to work consumed all her strength. Whilst treatment took a toll on her stamina, mobility and focus, she emphasised that work gave her purpose beyond medical appointments and side effects, and credited her family, colleagues and medical team with supporting her through the ordeal. She stressed that working through treatment would not be appropriate or possible for everyone, and offered a message of hope to others fighting the disease, stating that "cancer does not have to take away who you are."
