Phasmophobia devs Kinetic Games mosey into publishing with a witchy delivery game, a parasitic Metroidvania, and more

Rock Paper Shotgun · 3 hours ago

Kinetic Games, the developer behind Phasmophobia, has announced a move into publishing with a varied group of independent games. The expansion matters because it shows a successful indie studio using its resources to support projects beyond its own horror hit, at a difficult time for the games industry.

The announced titles include Crescent County, a magical delivery game featuring motorbrooms and relationship-building; Shellbound, a Metroidvania in which a parasite controls enemies inside a giant snail; Contact Protocol, a retrofuturist spaceship security game; and Aether Wizard Life, a cosy magic-and-castle-building adventure. Kinetic is also publishing the next game from Her Story and Immortality creator Sam Barlow, involving filmmaker Brandon Cronenberg; the approach has been compared with Among Us developer Innersloth’s indie-support initiative, Outersloth.

  • Kinetic Games is becoming an indie games publisher.
  • Its first slate spans magical deliveries, sci-fi horror and Metroidvania action.
  • The move supports varied projects beyond Phasmophobia.
