Phil Collins has given a new interview to BBC Breakfast in which he reiterates and expands on his earlier disclosure to The Times of London that he nearly died in 2024 from alcohol-related health complications. The Genesis frontman, who was admitted to a Swiss hospital for alcohol addiction in late 2023 before being readmitted and placed in intensive care, remains mostly unconscious during that second stay, according to his account; the story matters because it underscores how close the singer came to death and his current focus on recovery and health.

Collins described his kidneys and organs "seizing up" and said loved ones, including his five children, were rushed to his side amid discussions over whether to keep him on life support, with people "coming to say goodbye" while he has no memory of it. He said he has not had a drink since and, alongside earlier revelations of five knee surgeries, told the BBC he now feels "healthier now than I have been for quite a while", adding he often contemplates a return to recording and performing in his home studio.
