Phoebe Bridgers, KATSEYE Bag First No. 1s In Australia
Phoebe Bridgers has scored her first Australian No. 1 album, with Lost Weekend topping the ARIA Albums Chart published on 21 August, while girl group KATSEYE claims its first chart-topping single with "Animal". The milestones cap breakthrough moments for both acts, with Bridgers' latest surpassing the peaks of her previous solo and Boygenius releases, and KATSEYE building on recent momentum after a promotional visit to Australia earlier in the year.
Lost Weekend outperforms Bridgers' 2020 album Punisher (which peaked at No. 12) and her 2023 Boygenius record The Record (No. 3). Elsewhere on the albums chart, Peking Duk's debut studio album Paradise entered at No. 6, British band Jungle reached a career-high No. 9 with Sunshine, and new entries came from Kate Miller-Heidke, Marilyn Manson, Grinspoon's Phil Jamieson, Grace Cummings and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. On the singles chart, KATSEYE's Ed Sheeran co-written track "Animal" jumped from 13 to 1, following the group's performance on The Tonight Show and the release of their EP Wild; their previous best, "Pinky Up", had peaked at No. 19.
