Photon raises $4.5m to build AI agents for messaging services
Photon, a startup building tools for AI agents that operate through messaging services, has raised $4.5 million in seed funding. Its founders argue that agents could reduce the need for standalone mobile apps by reaching users through services they already use, though CEO Daniel Tian says the transition will take time.
The company says it has signed up more than 40,000 developers and grown revenue tenfold in four months, while keeping churn below 3%; it has not disclosed revenue figures. Its platform supports channels including iMessage, WhatsApp, Telegram, SMS and email, and offers a hosted service with 99.95% uptime, SOC 2 Type II and HIPAA compliance. The open-source version still accounts for 98% of usage.
