Trippets Lounge Bar, a Sheffield jazz venue and late-night bar, is to close on 18 April after 11 years under its current owners, Carl and Debbie Shaw. The closure removes a longstanding space for live jazz from the city centre and highlights the financial pressures facing independent music venues.

The owners said rising operating costs and the mental and financial strain of running the business had made continuing untenable. They thanked customers, musicians and staff for their support, while the announcement prompted disappointment among regulars and performers who regarded the venue as an important part of Sheffield’s cultural scene.
