Pixar's original animated film "Hoppers" has become an unexpected streaming success on Disney+, ranking among the ten most-watched films on the platform in the US several months after its theatrical release. This marks a turnaround for the studio's original (non-franchise) output, following the poor critical and commercial reception of its predecessor, "Elio," and suggests audiences are still willing to embrace new Pixar concepts when given the chance.

"Hoppers" follows an animal lover, voiced by Piper Curda, who uses new technology to transform into a robotic beaver in order to save a local habitat. Directed by Daniel Chong and written by Jesse Andrews, the film was made on a reported $150 million budget and earned $388 million worldwide at the box office, comprising $166 million domestically and $222 million overseas. Its streaming popularity comes as Pixar's latest release, "Toy Story 5," continues its theatrical run, having taken $890 million so far and remaining on course to become one of only a handful of billion-dollar films in 2026.
