Composer Dave Porter has received three Emmy nominations for his work on Apple TV's *Pluribus*, including Outstanding Music Composition, Sound Mixing, and Original Main Title Theme Music, out of the show's 18 total nominations. The recognition caps an 18-year creative partnership with series creator Vince Gilligan, spanning *Breaking Bad*, *Better Call Saul* and now *Pluribus*, marking the first time the Television Academy has honoured Porter's distinctive, story-driven approach to scoring.

Speaking on Deadline's Crew Call podcast, Gilligan and Porter discussed the making of the show's 20-second choral main title theme, performed by Kenya Hathaway, which Gilligan calls an "ear wig." Porter, who began his career as an assistant to composer Philip Glass, explained the theme's two intertwined vocal parts deliberately shift between harmony and discord to reflect the dichotomies at the heart of the series, which imagines a woman as one of the few humans untouched by a hive-mind-inducing alien virus. Gilligan credited Porter's habit of asking what emotion a scene should evoke as central to their long-running collaborative shorthand.
