Pluto Film Boards ‘Ida’ Star Agata Trzebuchowska’s Horror Feature ‘Sick’ Ahead Of Fantastic Fest Premiere + First Teaser

Deadline · 2 hours ago

Pluto Film has acquired international sales rights to Sick, the feature directorial debut of Agata Trzebuchowska, the actress best known for starring in Paweł Pawlikowski's Oscar-winning 2015 film Ida. The horror feature is set to have its world premiere at Fantastic Fest in Austin, followed by a European debut at the Sitges Film Festival, marking a significant step in Trzebuchowska's transition from acclaimed performer to writer-director.

The film follows sixteen-year-old Maks and his older sister Emma, who are sent to the Polish countryside to care for their ailing grandmother, only for their relationship to take a disturbing turn amid the oppressive summer heat. It is produced by Patryk Sielecki and Adrianna Rędzia of Warsaw-based Lumisenta, with a cast including Konrad Kąkol, Katarzyna Łubik, Monika Niemczyk, Julian Świeżewski and Eliza Rycembel. Both Sielecki and Pluto Film's managing director Daniela Cölle described the film as reworking the coming-of-age genre into a psychological horror about the fear and uncertainty of growing up. Sick will screen in Fantastic Fest's New Wave sidebar during the festival, which runs from 17 to 24 September 2026.
