Pokémon Winds & Waves’ new monster type could change everything

Polygon · 3 hours ago

With little official news about Game Freak's 2027 release Pokémon Winds and Waves, fans have turned to unverified claims from self-styled leakers, who keep focusing on a new category called "Seed Pokémon". The interest matters because much of this speculation traces back to a 2025 data breach that reportedly revealed Game Freak's business plans — and which correctly predicted the game's name, logo and premise before its announcement, lending some credibility to its other, unconfirmed claims.

According to the leaked documents, Seed Pokémon are rare baby creatures found in resort areas that begin evolving only when they travel to an island housing the game's main legendary, taking on supposedly "infinite variations". Further rumours suggest players will start with one, that they may influence the game's apparent random island generation and weather mechanics, and that the latest build contains over 300 new Pokémon. However, the reliability of the leaks is questionable: the breach concerned older, possibly abandoned plans, some leakers have shared false information, and it is unclear how many of the 300 "new" entries are simply variants of the same creature, as with Alcremie's 64 forms.
