Police investigating antisemitic Nazi chants from Hajduk Split fans
Croatian police are investigating antisemitic chants by Hajduk Split supporters before the club’s Conference League match against Ajax. The chants referred to Auschwitz and praised Adolf Hitler; Croatia’s government and human rights ombudswoman condemned them as hateful and incompatible with democratic values.
Footage showed supporters marching behind a car carrying a mock coffin marked “Ajax”, a club historically associated with Amsterdam’s Jewish community. Police said arrests had been made and more people identified, while Hajduk apologised for scenes at the event without specifically addressing the chants. Hajduk won 2-1, but play was stopped for about 10 minutes because of fireworks; Uefa cannot act on incidents outside the stadium.
