Mauritius Police are investigating two alleged forgery cases connected to AFRINIC’s annulled June 2025 board election. The inquiry adds to longstanding governance and legal difficulties at the African regional internet registry, whose ability to operate and elect a board had already been constrained by disputes with member Cloud Innovation.

The election was stopped during in-person voting after the Nomination Committee raised concerns, and was later annulled and rerun under different rules. South Africa’s ISPA alleged that votes may have been cast using unauthorised powers of attorney and that a recorded document later disappeared; AFRINIC and the election committee have not explained the annulment. Separately, AFRINIC is considering bylaw changes and stronger safeguards around its power to terminate members that breach IP-address rules.
