PC Richard Williams has been cleared of misconduct allegations and will return to full duties following a five-day disciplinary hearing into an incident in May 2023. Williams was filmed restraining Steven Clark, a 34-year-old man attempting to break into a house on a housing estate in Porthmadog, North Wales, striking him repeatedly on the side of the head. The case attracted significant attention due to the visible force used and prompted both a disciplinary investigation and criminal trial at Caernarfon Crown Court, where Williams was found not guilty of assault and intentional strangulation.

Williams defended his actions as "distraction strikes" necessary to control a resisting suspect when he was unable to access his baton or Taser, stating he was concerned for his own safety and that of his colleagues. Clark, who had been reported as "off his head" on cannabis and amphetamines with a history of violent threats, testified that he was unable to breathe during the confrontation. The misconduct panel ruled that the nine allegations against Williams had not been proven, and the Independent Office for Police Conduct investigation, combined with the Crown Court proceedings, concluded the matter.
